Introduced in 1934, the first production year Spartans featured a round sound hole, later changed to f-holes in 1936.

"The oversized body is 20 1/4 inches long by 16 3/8 inches extreme width, carved spruce top and hard maple sides and back. This model is the product of long experience and much experimenting. From the player's standpoint - both for appearance and tone - the result is highly satisfactory. We confidently believe that no better value can be had for the amount expended."

"The body is artistically finished and presents a beautiful appearance. The extension tailpiece and other metal fittings are nickel plated. The bridge is adjustable. As in all other Epiphone Masterbilt guitars, a patented expansion truss of steel braces the neck against warping or springing out of shape."

"To you judgement as a discriminating musician we submit the spartan guitar"
